Whakatauki/Waiata

Each week we have a whakatauki and waiata that we say and sing every day. We also talk about the meaning of the whakatuaki and the song as well as how we can sing and perform using our knowledge of music.

The shells of the karaka berry, and the shells of the crayfish, should not be seen from the Marae

Aim for the highest cloud so that if you miss it, you will hit a lofty mountain

(The flounder does not go back to the mud it has stirred

The leader at the front and the workers behind the scenes

He tangata takahi manuhiri, he marae puehu
A person who mistreats his guest has a dusty Marae (Meeting house)

Ahakoa he iti kete, he iti nā te aroha
It is the thought that counts




Week Six

Ahakoa he iti he pounamu
Although it is small it is a treasure




Week Four

He hono tangata e kore e motu; ka pa he taura waka e motu

Unlike a canoe rope, a human bond cannot be severed.





Week Three

He waka eke noa
A canoe which we are all in with no exception





Week Two

He aha te mea nui o te ao?
He tangata! He tangata! He tangata!

Mā te huruhuru, ka rere te manu
With feathers a bird can fly
